Call to Prayer Leader    Let Us gather in the welcome of our Triune God, Creator, Christ, and Holy Spirit.  Gathered:  Lord, it is good for us to be here.  Lighting the Christ candle Leader       Jesus Christ is the Light of the world.        Gathered:   The Light no darkness can overcome  Invitation Song to Lectio Divina, written and gifted by music minister John Penoyar of Hinesburg, Vermont "The Road To Emmaus" Were not our hearts burning as He spoke Were not His words words we longed to hear Were not our eyes opened in the breaking of the bread Were not our hearts burn -ing as He spoke Our God is here He walks among us When two or three of us are gathered in his name Our God is here and he surrounds us And all creation sings the glory of his name And we shall rise, as he is risen And though he promised us we did not understand Yes we shall rise as he is risen And we will know him when he calls to us by name. Lectio Divina Guidelines Leader:  - During the first reading, listen for the overall sense of the passage. Select  a word or phrase that captures your attention, as though the Holy Spirit were flashing a light from the text to your heart, asking you to notice it. Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, allow your eyes to be opened and your heart to be warmed as God speaks to you.  Leader:  During the second reading let us listen for the feelings, sensations and connections that God's Word stirs in us. What message might God be speaking into your life now?. Leader:  - During the final reading let us attend to our own hearts for a response to God’s love. What response will you carry forth from this encounter with the Living Word into the world?  Leader:   Let us now rest in the silence and attend once more to the presence of Christ among us. We hold a quiet space to hear God speaking in our hearts. "Transfiguration," Theophanes the Greek, 16th Century Luke 9:28-36 28 Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. 30 Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. 31 They appeared in glory and were speaking about his exodus, which he was about to fulfill in Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep, but as they awoke they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. 33 Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here; let us set up three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah," not realizing what he was saying. 34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. 35 Then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!" 36 When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen, Lord's Prayer    Leader:  In gratitude for Jesus’ presence among u let us speak aloud the prayer he taught us to say to the God who loves us: O most Compassionate Life-giver, may we honor and praise you; May we work with you to establish your new order of justice peace and love; Give us what we need for growth, And help us, through forgiving others, to accept forgiveness. Strengthen us in the time of testing, that we may resist all evil, For all tenderness, strength and love are yours, now and forever. Amen. Closing Prayer  Holy God, mighty and immortal, you are beyond our knowing, yet we see your glory in the face of Jesus Christ, whose compassion illumines the world. Transform us into the likeness of the love of Christ, who renewed our humanity so that we may share in his divinity, the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who live and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Closing Prayer  God who welcomes all in love, God of every land and nation, you have created all people and you dwell among us in Jesus Christ. Listen to the cries of those who pray to you, and grant that, as we proclaim the greatness of your name, all people will know the power of love at work in the world. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Luke 6:17-26

17 He came down with them and stood on a level place with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. 18 They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases, and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. 19 And everyone in the crowd was trying to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them. 20 Then he looked up at his disciples and said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21 "Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. "Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.  22 "Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man. 23 Rejoice on that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven, for that is how their ancestors treated the prophets. 24 "But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. 25 "Woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry. "Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep. 26 "Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets."

Lord's Prayer    Leader:  In gratitude for Jesus’ presence among u let us speak aloud the prayer he taught us to say to the God who loves us:

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, .

as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  for thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Closing Prayer 

God, you root those who trust in you by streams of healing water.
Release us from the bonds of disease, free us from the power of evil,
and turn us from falsehood and illusion, that we may find the blessing of new life in you through the power of Christ. Amen.
