Lectio Divina Guidelines
Leader: - During the first reading, listen for the overall sense of the passage. Select a word or phrase that captures your attention, as though the Holy Spirit were flashing a light from the text to your heart, asking you to notice it. Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, allow your eyes to be opened and your heart to be warmed as God speaks to you.
Leader: During the second reading let us listen for the feelings, sensations and connections that God's Word stirs in us. What message might God be speaking into your life now?. Leader: - During the final reading let us attend to our own hearts for a response to God’s love. What response will you carry forth from this encounter with the Living Word into the world? Leader: Let us now rest in the silence and attend once more to the presence of Christ among us. We hold a quiet space to hear God speaking in our hearts

author's reflection: "Acts 2: 17,18 God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy... Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy." According to the book of Acts, the disciples are gathered in one place. The disciples hold books while others hold scrolls. In later icons you find four disciples holding books and crosses on their stoles representing how the church hierarchy was forming... In the second version I have included women. I believe they too were there as witness and recipients, receiving the holy spirit and advocate in full measure. All of them present have their feet firmly placed on the earth. We are a collective species having been given a world to love and cherish. Our Earth abounds with all that is necessary for abundant life and the spirit of God has been given in full to humanity. Let us live in peace."

John 14:8-17, (25-27) The Spirit of truth 8 Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied." 9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? Holy One beyond all names, Eternal Wellspring, May love rise again in us today with food for every table, shelter for ever person, and reverence for every living being. Forgive us our failings in love, and free us from all falseness, that the light of our souls may shine and the strength of our spirits endure for earth and all its people this day, tonight, and forever. Amen.

Living God, you have created all that is.
Send forth your Spirit to renew and restore us,
that we may proclaim your good news
