Prayer of Sacred Reading and Listening (Lectio Divina), Monday, November 17, 2025, 9:00am

Dawn in the Hills. Julian Onderdonk (1922)

Luke 1:68-79

68 "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has looked favorably on his people and redeemed them. 69 He has raised up a mighty savior for us in the house of his child David, 70 as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, 71 that we would be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us. 72 Thus he has shown the mercy promised to our ancestors and has remembered his holy covenant, 73 the oath that he swore to our ancestor Abraham, to grant us 74 that we, being rescued from the hands of our enemies, might serve him without fear, 75 in holiness and righteousness in his presence all our days. 76 And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, 77 to give his people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins. 78 Because of the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, to shine upon those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace."

The Lord's Prayer in Three Voices*

Matthew 6: 9-13 , (from "Celtic Benediction," by John Phillip Newell) First Nations Version: An Indigenous Translation of the New Testament.

Our Father who art in Heaven

Holy One beyond all names, Eternal Wellspring

O Great Spirit, our Father from above,

Hallowed be thy name Thy kingdom come

May love rise again in us today

W e honor your name as sacred and holy.

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven

With food for every table, shelter for every person,

Bring your good road to us,

where the beauty of your ways in the spirit-world

above is reflected in the earth below.

Give us this day our daily bread

and reverence for every living being.

Provide for us day by day

--the elk, the buffalo, and the salmon.

The corn, the squash, and the wild rice.

All the  things we need for each day.

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us Forgive us our failings in love,

and free us from all  falseness,

Release us from the things we have done wrong,

in the same way we release others

for the things done wrong to us.

and Lead us not into temptation,

that the light of our souls may shine

Guide us away from the things that tempt us

to stray from your good road

but deliver us from evil

and help the strength of our spirits endure for earth and all its people

and set us free from the evil one and his worthless ways.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours forever

This day, tonight,  and forever.

Amen!

Yes, I commit!

Aho! May it be so!

Closing Prayer

Loving and faithful God, you have always kept your promises

of mercy and light, freeing us from fear and darkness,

We ask that your love shine through our lives

so that we might be guides for one another on the pathway of peace.
